The transformation
Before and after
The concrete patio was already in place. Adding overhead coverage gave the space a clear purpose: a place to sit down, share a meal and spend time together outside.
The homeowner’s goal
A patio that works for everyday life
The plan was to make the patio more comfortable for outdoor dining, family time and relaxing in the backyard. The homeowner wanted shade that could change through the day, a little more privacy and lighting for the evening.
A 10 × 19 ft louvered patio cover suited that goal. The six-post, freestanding configuration covers the rectangular slab without attaching the pergola to the house. Its Dark Gray finish gives the space a defined edge while keeping the sides open to the yard.
Shade, on your terms
Open the louvers for light. Close them for coverage.
The motorized roof operates by remote control, and the louvers can stop anywhere between fully open and fully closed. That lets the homeowner adjust sunlight, shade and airflow as conditions change. With the louvers closed, the roof provides overhead coverage.
Louvers open
Louvers closed Perimeter LED lighting
Integrated LED lighting runs around the frame and is controlled by remote. It gives the patio light for evening meals and time outside without adding a separate light fixture to the pergola.
A 10-ft side screen
One side protection screen adds shade when the sun is low, helps reduce exposure to wind and provides more privacy along that side of the patio.
Compare pergola screen options and confirm the specification that suits your structure.
Concealed drainage
Integrated perimeter gutters direct rainwater into downspouts inside the posts. The drainage stays part of the frame, keeping exposed downspouts off the exterior.
More control over the open side of the patio
The 10-ft screen adds coverage along one side of the seating area while the rest of the pergola stays open to the backyard.
