Homeowners' goal

A Poolside Patio Worth Spending More Time In

The homeowners wanted a more comfortable place to gather beside the pool. Their open concrete patio had plenty of room but no adjustable overhead shade. They envisioned an outdoor space for relaxed afternoons, family time and evenings with guests.

The pergola needed to sit naturally within the poolside setting, leave the patio open to its surroundings and offer more flexibility than a fixed roof.

Why this pergola

A Standard Model With a Flexible Louvered Roof

A 13×15 ft standard-model freestanding aluminum pergola was selected for this site. Four posts support the dark gray frame without relying on a wall attachment.

The motorized louvers open, close and stop at intermediate angles, allowing the owners to adjust overhead shade and airflow as the light changes.

More Control Over Sun, Shade and Rain

This motorized roof is not limited to fully open or fully closed positions. The louvers can pause in between, so the patio can feel brighter, more shaded or more open to airflow.

When closed, the louvers provide overhead shelter during ordinary rainfall. Integrated perimeter gutters collect runoff, and downspouts concealed within the posts guide it away. As with any open-sided pergola, wind-driven rain can still enter from the sides.

Outdoor comfort

LED Lighting, an Infrared Heater and a Ceiling Fan

Three practical additions make the new covered patio useful at more times of day.

Integrated Perimeter LED Lighting

Warm light tucked into the pergola’s perimeter brings a welcoming glow to the area after sunset.

Infrared Heating + Airflow

An infrared heater adds comfort on cooler evenings, while a ceiling fan supports airflow on warmer days. The team demonstrated the installed features at handover.
