Our pergola is engineered and tested to handle winds up to 80 mph with the louvers closed—right at the lower end of hurricane strength. If gusts exceed 80 mph, open the louvers to let air pass through. Many Florida customers have reported their Villa Pergolas rode out hurricanes with the louvers left open.
WEATHERPROOF PERGOLA and GRAND RETRACTABLE PERGOLA are rated to 120 mph with louvers closed.
The WIND-RESISTANT SCREEN is rated to 60 mph when closed; in strong winds, we recommend opening the screens.

Snow loads: Our pergola is designed for 15 psf.
WEATHERPROOF PERGOLA and GRAND RETRACTABLE PERGOLA are designed for 25–30 psf—quite a bit of weight.
If snowfall exceeds these limits, open the louvers so snow can shed.
With a mix of wet and dry snow, expect roughly 1 ft of accumulation capacity on closed louvers. During storms or throughout heavy snow seasons, keep louvers open.

Our pergola and WEATHERPROOF PERGOLA manage rain effectively: water runs off the louvers into side gutters, then drains through the corner posts to ground level.

Our pergola spans up to 13 ft without a center post. The largest four-post configuration is 13×13 ft with 13-ft-wide louvers.
